Muay Thai, The Art of Eight Limbs

Muay Thai is a martial art from Thailand referred to as the “Art of Eight Limbs” because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows, and knee strikes, thus using the eight “points of contact.” Muay Thai is an excellent form of self-defense that enhances one’s flexibility, stamina, strength, and speed. With practices, an individual develops confidence, self-discipline, and a positive attitude. Students will learn proper form, stance, footwork, as well as the technique of basic punches, kicks, knee, and elbow strikes used in Muay Thai.

Each class begins with calisthenics and conditioning drills. The classes have a friendly and motivating atmosphere to help develop you both physically and mentally. Safety is a top priority at ASRBJJ and proper control is emphasized during training.

To accommodate your busy schedule, we offer classes several days throughout the week at different times. Students must purchase separately boxing gloves, shin pads, and a mouthpiece. Appropriate for ages 10 years old and older. Please look on our Schedule above for times and Seminars.

Our Muay Thai – Kickboxing:

Muay Thai, translated into English as Thai Boxing, is the national sport of Thailand.  It is the hand-to-hand tactic used by the Thailand’s army. During the latter half of the 20th century, Muay Thai was exported to many countries and is now practiced by hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. Thai Boxing features punches, kicks, elbows and knees to wear down and knock out an opponent. The training method develops devastating power, speed, and superb cardio-vascular endurance as well as fighting spirit.

Muay Thai training is also quite safe thanks to sophisticated pad training that keep practitioners healthy. It has also proven very effective outside the ring and has been embraced enthusiastically by practitioners of a variety of self-defense, sporting, military and law enforcement activities. If you like to punch and kick and want to learn to do it correctly while getting in one of the most intense workouts around, make sure you attend our Muay Thai classes. If you need one on one attention ASR can provide a program just for you. With Meal Planning, private classes, Cleanses and the most important and an exercise plan just for you.

What are you waiting for?

I haven’t really exercised in a long time. Is kick boxing too intense for me to start with?
No! One of the great things about Muay Thai (if your doctor gives you the ok to start a regular exercise program) is that you start off at your own pace, gradually increasing the level of intensity as you get more fit.
Can I loose weight with the Cardio Kick boxing program?
Yes. Muscle and Fitness Magazine has rated Cardio Kick boxing as the top fat burning workout. Studies show that participating individuals can burn up to an average of 1000 calories per hour.
Is there any contact in your Muay Thai classes?
Yes, there is contact in our regular Muay Thai classes. You learn all the basic skills and get in the best shape of your life, but you don’t have to participate in any sparring activity unless you choose to, just for fun.
Am I too old to start kickboxing?
No. We have students from a wide range of ages doing our Kickboxing/Muay Thai Program. If you are able to play a recreational sport, participate in a fitness class, go for a jog or a swim then you should be fine to start up kickboxing. Our free trial class will help you feel comfortable and will give you a chance to gauge this for yourself. You’re only as old as you feel, give yourself a chance to feel as young as you can.
I’m not in the best shape. Can I still take a Kick boxing Class?
Of course! Our classes are designed so that beginners can set their own individual pace, and progressively increase their own level of intensity. Our Instructors are there to guide and motivate you, but ultimately, the intensity level of your workout is in your hands.
How long does it take to get results with Cardio Kick boxing?
Results are almost immediate depending on the frequency, intensity, and duration of your workouts. Within the first week you can look for an increase in energy level, the next week for a change in the way your clothes fit, and by the third week you may notice a difference on the scale. Results may vary.
Is Kickboxing/Muay Thai good for self-defense?
Yes! Because, Kickboxing/Muay Thai stresses basics, power and speed, they are highly effective for self-defense. Muay Thai is often called the art of eight weapons. Thai Kickboxers utilize feet, hands, knees and elbows! In our training, we strike bags, mitts, Thai pads, and work with partners. This assures that the training is relevant to real life and is practical.
Will there be other beginners there beside me?
Yes, about 90% of our new members have never trained before, and they were nervous too. Once you try it you’ll be hooked!
